Breed Standards for the Chesapeake Bay Retriever

General Appearance:

Slightly longer than tall, with its hindquarters as high, or higher, than its forequarters

Head:

Broad round skull with medium stop; Eyes amber; Hindquarters as high or slightly higher than shoulder;

Tail:

Straight or slightly curved

Color:

Any color of brown, sedge, or dead grass

Size:

Weight: male: 65-80 lb; female: 55-70 lb

Height: male: 23-26”; female: 21-24”

Coat:

It is rendered virtually waterproof by virtue of its oily, harsh outer coat and dense wooly undercoat.

Temperament:

Loves to swim and retrieve.
